The 10 Worst Remakes of All Time

Oh man, I’m just all kinds of wrong today!
I was sure I’d heard it somewhere (DotD that is), but I am beginning to fear the heard was more a read, and the somewhere was more like the internet.

As I say, feels far more like homage than a remake, and totally dig the way you went about it, as like you say it means they both work as seperate entities. The original has always been a real favourite of mine, and it’s one of the very, very few remakes I like.

And to answer Aisura304 there, indeed, Oldboy is happening. Spielberg and Smith back together to make that… Despite some of the really odd remake choices, that almost takes the… everything up for offer in reward for idiotic plans.

“I don’t think the Haunting remake is shot for shot.”

Ah, maybe I’m misremembering it. Haven’t seen it since, I just remember most all of the key elements being reused, but, in colour. And it’s even longer since I’ve seen the original.

Oh, and it has to be said, Jeff Vintar’s post in which he told me that that’s what happened with I, Robot disappeared, so I understand if you don’t want to say anything!

And since it got mentioned, I wound up really enjoying the new Dawn of the Dead, but was under the impression it certainly wasn’t written as, and possibly the direction wasn’t embarked upon as a remake. Just one of the those old ’studios adding the name to it’ jobs ’cause it sort of fit – being a homage.

Like Jeff Vintar’s script for a sci-fi movie, that then became I, Robot as it would give Proyas some cash to play with.

I certainly don’t think of it as a remake.

Wow. Not only had I forgotten The Wicker Man (like Planet of the Apes,I’m not really a fan of the original but can tell the remake is an abomination), but hadn’t remembered that Owen Wilson was in the remake of The Haunting. I watched that when it came out and was really disappointed, which given it’s almost shot for shot says something, but most definitely didn’t remember it having him… Sort of changes how I think of it.

Of your picks, The Manchurian Candidate is one I just hadn’t known had been afflicted… One of those total ‘wtf?’ cases. Was it really even remotely necessary? As for Adam Sandler vehicles, I’m off the mostly hate camp. Only one I can stand is Punch Drunk Love, but I can’t say he’d come close to my pickfor casting a remake of Longest Yard.

I wish I had a clue what the hell was going through the minds of Hollywood Execs… Or what minds I’m left believing they may have.

The 100 Greatest Underground Hip Hop Songs of the Last 15 Years

Oh (I suck at remembering everything…), For Hero: For Fool was probably my favourite, though also the first one I heard, but I think now the ones I listen to most by Subtle are Yell & Ice (the remixes of For Hero…) and A New White (Red, White and Blonde might be the track I’d put on my list).

There was a mix tape I have around, related to Jesse Dangerously, which i finally remembered the name of – Backburner – What Have You Done for Rap Lately? – which has some really interesting stuff on it. And otherwise most of what I have around is a little more mainstream – the Patton/Dan the Automator stuffs like Handsome Boy Modelling School and Deltron 3030 (and Dr. Octagon slightly relatedly).
Just to keep you busy!

“I’m gonna do some research now, thanks…”

No prob, man. Your list has given me more than enough things to trawl through and look at. I’m something of a musicophile, and haven’t had enough new additions of late (and hip hop is probly the thing I do worst at discovering new artists in).

So this time, now I’m not thinking about the coupla things I listen to loads that weren’t there… Great list, cheers!

Ahem, that said, I see you did get some cLOUDDEAD on there! Nice.

The 100 Greatest Underground Hip Hop Songs of the Last 15 Years

Pretty tempted to agree with Daylight as the top pick. Reminded me to go listen to Labor Days posthaste.

Definitely missed having Saul Williams on the list though – possibly Tao of Now off of Amethyst Rock Star would be a top ten pick.

Oh, I’d be tempted to add in Trouble Brewing off of Jesse Dangerously’s album, damn good track. And if you can call Subtle hiphop, most of their catalogue makes it into my top ten!

The 15 Best Sequels of All Time

Certainly, like you say, I’ve tended to go with Identity over Supremacy. Ultimatum I’ve only seen the once though… I remember liking it, but will definitely have to go back to them soon. Have to track down Ultimatum on disk…

The 15 Best Sequels of All Time

Nice to see you put BttF2 in the list of films people were wrong about… That series went downhill from it’s beginning. First movie was great, the second was alright, and the third was dumb as nuts.
But I’m with you on Aliens and Empire too.

As for Bourne, I really like them, but I haven’t quite worked out how I feel they stack up against each other. For ages I’ve felt that the first one was slightly better shot than the second, though everyone says that Greengrass improved the direction. I’m going to have to go back and watch them all to decide, but I always felt we could see less of the fight sequences in the second, and given they put so much effort into making them interesting it seemed like an oversight, for the sake of the frenetic feel.

The 22 Worst Movie Sequels of All Time

While possibly an unimaginative vote on my part, I’m glad to see the Matrix Abortions won out. They were such a let down.
That said, had I known there was even a sequel to Chinatown, I might have given the mere thought of such an abysmal idea a vote…
