Thanks, guys. Please download it if you can from iTunes, even if you’ve already heard it – it’ll be great to help put it at the top of the podcasts on iTunes.
FortheLove – I think I have, a little. I blogged about Secrets from Porn Industry Insiders. Other than that, I don’t really know what to blog. Belladonna and her husband Aiden have become very good friends, but it’s very much like any other friendship, with the occasional tale of gagging on a cock thrown into dinner conversation (well, thrown into dinner conversation by someone other than me.) I’ve been luck to have worked with porn stars who are responsible and kind, so I just don’t have a lot of nitty-gritty dirty news to share.
Logan – Sasha is trending far and away at number one over the past month, way ahead of the rest. She was lower on the list a couple months ago (specifically, she was at #5), but we recrunched the numbers for posting today. Google trends below, Sasha in Blue, Jenna Jameson in Red, Tera Patrick in yellow:
Sasha is number three on Twitter (after Belladonna and Jenna Haze), which is the social networking platform we most value, as it leads directly to the most hits (we used to favor MySpace more, but its helpfulness has waned). So why do you think she’s “far from being the strongest”? We also factor in upward trends, and Sasha and Stoya came out about the best there – upward trends help us see who will still be a star when the PG PORN episode actually airs. Downward trends, like Tera Patrick’s or Raven Riley’s, gives them a slight handicap. And news stories help, which largely favor Sasha and Stormy Daniels far over anyone else. These aren’t all our factors, but they’re some, and I think help to show you why Sasha is at number one.
And, again, I think we’re fairly clear with what we’re trying to measure. I’m not saying the Fame Registry is biased, but I don’t think they’re defining what they’re measuring other than “heat.” I think we’re pretty specific with that – we’re predicting who will garner the most hits.
What, do you guys think I’m making some random list here?! I’ve got OCD out the ass. This is some worked out mathematical shit right here.
Jeff – Kayden wants to do an episode, and we’ve talked about it. I’d love to have her do one. It’s just a matter of working out schedules.
Oliefr – Actually, not. The superheroes one was way more fun to me, and more interesting. It was difficult to find some of these women clothed.
To further my point, here are the Google trends info for two stars on Fame Registry’s “Top Porn Stars of 2008″ – one who made my list and one who did not. Carmella Bing is in blue, and Courtney Cummz is in red.
According to the Fame Registry, Courtney Cummz is #55 and Carmella Bing is #58. These Google differences are actually quite enormous — so what fame registry is using to say Courtney Cummz is “hotter” than Carmella Bing is a mystery.
Hey Logan – Fame registry seems to use a very different system than we do. They say they use a mix of stuff, some of which seems a little unhelpful in discovering who drives traffic (Penthouse Pet status and AVN awards won??) If you check their rankings against, say, Google trends numbers, you’ll see that our rankings are much, much closer to that system. In addition, they seem to leave out certain web stars like Brandi Belle and Raven Riley who most absolutely get more web hits than almost everyone on their list. If they took Alexa rankings into account (as we do, along with other website trackers), it seems that would be an easy realization. They even mispell a name or two, which makes me doubt the system a bit (Amy Reid is actually Amy Ried).
Also, whatever the merits of this fame registry, our system is a working system. Check out how Tera Patrick, for instance, got less hits on her Spike interview than other porn stars. And her Spike show garnered only 15,000 hits. The reigning belief is that Tera Patrick is currently the biggest porn star in the world, but our data seems to show something very different than that. Now maybe she does sell the most DVD units – we don’t measure that – but she certainly doesn’t drive the most traffic, and she doesn’t get the most internet searches. Tera’s overall DOWNWARD trend was also taken into account with our database.
Our internal PG PORN numbers also show this – Sasha Grey drives more traffic to her episode than any of our other porn stars.
So maybe the “fame registry” does measure something, I’m just not sure exactly what it is.
Ross – Just remember, these aren’t choices – this truly comes from a formula we devised.
Lady – Aria is interested mostly in travel in the present. I don’t think she’s chasing it quite as hard as some of the others on this list.
No, Ashley Blue also doesn’t have the required numbers. (You can pretty much bet if it’s a well-known star that we’ve crunched her numbers in the Matrix).
Ben – Dana has a LOT of online support through MySpace, Twitter, etc, and she’s a great girl, but when you run her numbers she doesn’t get the search term hits like the other people above, so she didn’t make the top 50.
Benn – No, the list doesn’t exclude folks. We’d run the girls through our trusted sources (Belladonna and her husband Aiden, Jenna Haze, etc) to see if they were trustworthy and professional.
Arkansylvania – I’ll have to disagree with you – in terms of influence, Magnificent Seven isn’t even in the same ballpark as Seven Samurai. And, although it may be a good film, it’s not as good as Seven. I still think it’s a fun remake and was worth remaking, however.
John – I really hate the Night remake, as I think it’s everything a remake shouldn’t be; the same thing, only attempting to “update it”. I vastly prefer the Hills Have Eyes remake, or even the Texas Chainsaw remake. I think the film is putrid. I admittedly have never seen Day of the Dead, but I don’t think the reason it fails is because of spider-climbing zombies. Could there be a movie with spider-climbing zombies that works? Absolutely, as long as it’s consistent with the rest of the film and is believable. I love shambling zombies and running zombies and super-zombies: I don’t think there’s any right or wrong – it’s just how you use them.
As for Dawn not being on this list, it stands to reason that people who follow me on Twitter, etc, are likely to be fans of the film, and therefore I wouldn’t get a fair response (for the record, before I said it was excluded, Dawn would have come in at number one or two).
I can take I Am Legend over Omega for sure, but cannot say that Last Man is equal or even close to Yojimbo (nor is it close to that other either-remake-of-ripoff-of-Yojimbo, Fistful of Dollars).
Sean – Although I know it’s on the Wikipedia list, Blow Out is not a remake of Blow Up. It’s either a homage or a rip-off, whichever way you want to look at it.
Thom – You need to read the post. Anything that’s based on the same source material is a remake. Therefore, Casino Royale is a remake as much as The Thing, The Fly, etc.
O11 was a mess, poorly written, hastily thrown together, very much like the original film. It is Hollywod patting itself on the back turned celluloid. It looks nice, but that’s about it.
That’s frustrating. Photobucket keeps taking down my pics – which a) Are fucking cartoons! and b) are not even close to naked! So far they’ve gotten a Wonder Woman, a Jean Grey, and a VooDoo. This happened also with my equally-clothed photos of porn stars. Anyone have a less restrictive alternative to Photobucket?
Toni – I don’t think so, as many of the women specifically mentioned the comic.
Heidi – Not as disproportionate as you might think. All of yesterday, Gambit and Batman were the top two vote getters by a great deal. There were equal amounts of male/female voters, but most of the women voted for one of three male heroes (Gambit, Wolvie, Batman), and MANY female voters voted for girls (Wonder Woman is number one because of women, and Mystique and Catwoman also scored highly with females – Power Chick, however, was almost all men). Anyway, there was too much beef at the top of the list so I made a request for more hetero male voters on Twitter last night, and was flooded with a second wave of chick-centered votes. Corrupt, perhaps? More pleasant photo-downloading experience for me? Definitely.
