Art Night Out

Saturday night Linda Cardellini, her boyfriend Justin, and I went to this amazing art gallery opening, a show entitled "Travis Louie’s ‘Monster?’"  It’s still going on at CoproGallery at the Bergamet Arts Complex here in LA, so if you’re around, or coming through LA, I highly recommend you check it out.  Here are a few of my favorites from the show…

"Chuck Brown" Tim O’Brien

This was my favorite piece of the night.  Linda, Justin and I kept returning to look at it over and over again.  The price tag was five grand, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to spend that much.  Still, as of late last night it hadn’t been sold.  I can always go back…

"The Gift", Dan May

I almost bought this painting.  I love a lot of darker art, but what I really like to have up in my house is the mixture of the weird, and beautiful.  At 2,200 bucks, I thought this painting was a bargain.  I sat staring at it for a while, deciding whether I was going to buy it or not when, all of a sudden, they put the little red sticker on it signifying someone else had bought it.  I later found out that someone else was Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen.  They’re a super-nice couple, so I was happy it was going to someone cool.

"While You’re Sleeping" Audrey Kawasaki

Audrey Kawasaki is one of my favorite living artists.  Linda told me last night it was her dream that Audrey Kawasaki and I meet and fall in love and get married so that Linda can be friends with her.  I told Linda that sounded like a pretty heavy dose of committment on my part, and maybe she could just try writing her on MySpace.

"Blue Boy" Dave Devries

Dave Devries takes kid’s drawings and brings them to life.  This is one of two of his awesome works on display on the show.

"Archangel" Tristan Elwell

"The Thing with Feathers" Greg Couch

We spent a while discussing this one.  I think that dude is killing the birds (notice the strung up birds behind him) and setting their spirits free.  He’s also standing on some wheels.

"King of the Lint People" Travis Louie

"Things That Go Crunk in the Night" Isabel Samaras

"?" Kirk Reinert

This one was absolutely haunting: one of the most beautiful works in the gallery.

"Fleischer Envy" - Mark Elliot

"Damask" Chris Ryniak

"Milkman" Peter Nguyen

"Wolf-Man Inadvertently Crosses the Line (When He Peed on Unborn Babies)" David Chung

"Alchemy" Steven Daily

"Cubed" Vince Nguyen

"The Monster That Ate the World" Tiffany Liu

"Starlet" Ana Bagayan

In addition to the Monster? show an artist named Tin has a showing called "Beautiful Imperfections" in the same gallery. His stuff is definitely worth a look as well…
